Hamish finished school, went to Uni for six months, but has ended up at Gardner Cars six months later in a full-time position. Obviously, Uni was not for him. “It’s not for everyone Hamish!” What is for him, according to Hamish is 4-wheel driving, fishing, and going out on the water, be it jet skiing and boating. Life experience!
Ever since Ben was young he’s had a passion for cars, and when he finished school he decided to learn everything he could about the mechanics and how they worked. Ben pursued his passion for cars with a Pre-Vocational Course at TAFE. This led to work experience with some great mechanics, which lead Ben to a Mechanical Apprenticeship. Once he completed his apprenticeship somewhere along the way he started to lose the passion and drive he once had. Ben needed a change. Not knowing whether he wanted to continue as a mechanic… along came Mark from Gardner Mods. Mark approached Ben and gave him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Ben has joined the team and through the Gardner Mods love of the car culture, has lit the fire back inside Ben and reignited his passion once again. When he’s not working he enjoys spending time with the family, riding stand up, bodyboarding on Flowrider, camping, cars and gaming when he can.
Modifying cars started at an early age in Christchurch, New Zealand.Dave’s Father Gary and Grandad Jack opened Gardner Cars in 1985. Dave’s school holidays were spent down at the yard washing cars to save for his very first vehicle, a 1979 Toyota Corolla. This was pulled apart several times including the engine, with Dave spending hours in the garage, “I must have done every modification possible”.
This passion lead to several other modified vehicles including competitive drift car racing.
Moving to the Gold Coast in 2009 the passion continued in opening Gardner Cars again with Gary (Dad) building the business from one vehicle to well over 100 today that are synonymous with 4X4 adventure and performance.
Dave has two beautiful young boys with partner Brittany that are also mad about cars. “I’m sure with the core values that Gardner Cars believe in: Integrity, Fun, Respect, People and Passion – we will see the fourth generation of Gardners continuing to enjoy the motor industry”.
Barry started his career in the automotive industry as a panel beater and most recently car detailing with Gardner Cars, “I’ve always had a passion for cars in any shape”. Whether it is fixing up, doing up, reselling or bringing them back to their former glory, Barry loves cars. When he’s not tinkering with cars, he loves motor bikes of every era and style.Barry also loves spending time with his partner and two young boys. They love getting on the mountain bikes, Barry on his BMX and tearing it up on the tracks. He also loves the gym and keeping in shape when he’s not thinking about cars.
Since and early age Mark has had a passion for the automotive industry. Growing up in a mechanically minded family it was inevitable that vehicles would play some part in his life. Straight out of school he searched for his foot in the door, which was found at his local Mazda dealership in 1997. Spending over 10 years there he took on many roles with his last as Service Manager. It was at Mazda he obtained his qualification in Cert III Mechanical Engineer. After 10 years Mark was after a change and a challenge and found himself at a Safety Certificate company as a vehicle examiner. In this position he was lucky enough to continue with another passion rotary performance, working on several high-end rotary drag racing cars. It was at this point he met Dave Gardner who convinced him to join the team at Gardner Cars as Mechanic/Workshop Manager. Dave and Mark share a similar outlook on life which makes them great friends in and out of business. A healthy, fit and active approach to life with a love of camping, 4-wheel driving, trail running and biking.
